Wow!!! I’m so happy to have read this! You are truly inspiring. The moment I realized I was more conservative was when I watched the world attack trump and asked myself, how could they call good evil and evil good? Something is seriously wrong here. The man wants to help and is putting his country first! Can they not see it? What is going on? I also looked at the behavior of the members of my family, delusional, narcissistic, always looking to dominate or fight. I knew I was different, I knew god put something else in Me. It’s a scary world we live in and I’m just glad I can still find my people. God bless you!!!!!!

I think it was Ronald Reagan who said, "I didn't leave the Democrat party; the Democrat party left me." I can certainly sympathize and maybe you can too. I am the same person with the same views I had 30 years ago when Democrats called me a "conservative Democrat" but today Democrats call me a "far right fascist white supremacist." If Democrats think that being for the little guy and against big government means I am all those bad things, then I hope they never call me anything else. One last bit of advice: be careful about embracing the Republican party. Neither party is what it used to be and few in the leadership of either party give a hoot about the little guy. And to them, all of us are little guys.

You are spot on with the Reagan quote. Don't worry; any involvement with the RNC is done with my eyes wide open. After falling in love with the LP, I realize every political party has issues. I will never be a blind partisan. I'm a conservative first.

Thanks for the reminder.

Bravo Christy! I hope your courage will be an inspiration to others.

I hadn't seen that Sowell quote! Thanks for sharing. Hopefully, folks will look at our cities - heck, our nation and realize we must make significant changes.

Thank you for sharing this story. Engaging in conversation is all that is needed to plant the seed of free thought. For you, that was your 13 year-old child. I believe majority of Americans are value aligned. A great book written in 1957 by former Communist Manning Johnson explains how the Communist party was able to infiltrate the black community, which was by far the most resolved, unified, & resilient to the Communist ideology. It was done through trusted people in the community by circumventing talk of values. That book is Color, Communism & Common Sense. (Short read - the audiobook is only 2 hrs)

Also, here is something I had written titled "Civil Discourse is Vital to Preserve a Nation of Liberty" that can better articulate my opinion.

Socialism is slavery. The Democratic Party is pushing Socialism. Americans consist of people of all skin colors. I am a white guy. I'm 71 years old. Don't be duped by the democrats! The Republican Party is the only party that's big enough to defeat the democrats. Vote Republican - your freedom and the freedom of your loved ones depend on it!

I am 71 years old. I thought about joining the Libertarian Party when I turned 18. I decided it was a waste, because the Libertarian Party was too small to accomplish much of anything. Also, I didn't agree with their belief in open borders. Plus, they failed then and continue to fail to see they whole picture. I joined the Republican Party. It has since become much more conservative.
